Being greener
My aim for this week, is to try to reduce our rubbish bags to one bag a week. Bit of a cheat that Child number 3 is at nursery every day so his nappies are disposed of there… I’m going to buy all my meat and fish at the fresh counter to reduce the packaging waste. And I’ll buy my fruit and veg loose too.
Whenever I read articles about climate change, I start wondering whether little things I do can really change things, it’s easy to just think that no-one else is doing it, so I won’t either. If I publish my little changes on this blog, maybe someone will read it and be inspired to do something too.
Smiletrain
I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d like to raise funds for this charity that provides surgery for kids with cleft lip and cleft palate. It’s only about £150 to do the operation, very worthwhile. I just can’t think of a good way to raise money. As it’s sort of linked to cosmetic surgery, I wondered if I could do a sponsored use-no-cosmetics-at-all-for-a-few-months thing, but that seems a bit shallow to me now. What do you guys think?
On the up
Motherhood isn’t always a barrel of laughs, so here are a couple of things I do to keep happy.
- Before I go to sleep I write a list of all the good things that happened each day, some really little, like the kids laughing and smiling, or a particularly tasty hot chocolate. I’ve got a nice book by my bed now of all the fun memories that I sometimes flick through to cheer myself up.
- Meditation, although in the loosest possible terms. I just keep my eyes closed and imagine a flame of light inside my chest and the word PEACE in my mind. Sometimes I’m surrounded by acrobatic children and the telly’s on, but it still helps to do it for ten minutes.
